This article grew from a reflection I shared on Facebook following a recent Zoom conversation that invited me into deeper self inquiry. What began as an examination of neutral observation, discernment, and sovereignty gradually became something much more personal:
Is my heart as light as a feather?
The outer situation brought forward differing perceptions, emotional reactions, assumptions, and the natural impulse to clarify what had occurred. Yet beneath the surface, I recognized a more important invitation. Rather than looking only at what another person had said or done, I was being called to observe my own response and become conscious of the lens through which I was perceiving the experience.
Life has repeatedly revealed itself to me as a mirror. When an encounter moves my heart, activates my autonomic nervous system, or pulls upon the threads of my integrity, I am invited to ask what may still be held within me.
Is there resentment, rejection, abandonment, shame, guilt, blame, grief, defensiveness, or a need to be validated that is still influencing my present experience?
These questions are not an invitation into self condemnation. They are an invitation into self awareness, inner freedom, and greater coherence with the intelligence of the heart.
As the Facebook dialogue unfolded, friends began sharing images, teachings, and messages that reflected many of the same themes. The posts spoke of releasing identities formed through conditioning, reclaiming the authority we may have placed outside ourselves, restoring resonance between the feminine and masculine aspects of Self, witnessing distortion without emotionally feeding it, and remembering who we were before the roles, stories, and assumptions took hold.
I chose to preserve the original post and the comments that followed because they reveal the living process through which insight continued to deepen. Each contribution became another mirror, offering a different perspective through which to explore sovereignty, conscious creation, emotional freedom, the subconscious mind, and the restoration of our authentic Self.
This unfolding dialogue brought me greater clarity and helped deepen my own self reflection. My intention in preserving and sharing it here is to offer the information to others who may also find insight, clarity, encouragement, or benefit within these reflections.
This article is not offered to prove one perspective right or another wrong. It is an invitation to look within with honesty and compassion.
Can we acknowledge what is unfolding without becoming consumed by it?
Can we speak truthfully without entering battle?
Can we maintain healthy boundaries without closing our hearts?
Can we become aware of an old emotional pattern without continuing to give it our creative Life Force?
Can we reclaim the energy held within a past experience and allow our authentic Self to determine how we respond now?
Florence Scovel Shinn’s words continue to ring within me:
“So we see man’s work is ever with himself.”
The outer world may reveal the pattern, but the doorway to transformation remains within.

Life has a remarkable way of becoming a mirror.
When a situation stirs something within me, I am learning not to look only at what another person said or did. I am being invited to look more deeply into my own heart and ask what the experience is revealing about me. I take a moment to observe my response or reaction so I can become aware of the lens through which I was perceiving the experience.
Yesterday, a meme appeared on my feed, and its message stopped me in my tracks. I have shared it in the comments, along with a link to the group where it was originally posted. It asked:
“That’s cool bro, but is your heart as light as a feather?”
The words stopped me.
They felt like an invitation to become completely honest with myself.
A recent experience brought forward conflicting perceptions, emotional reactions, and the temptation to defend what I knew to be true. I could see how easily the conditioned mind wanted to explain, correct, persuade, and establish what had happened.
Yet beneath all of that, another question was quietly waiting:
What is this experience revealing within me?
Yesterday, I accepted an invitation to join a Zoom call with an open mind and what I believed to be a coherent heart. I received a personal invitation through Messenger and shared it with several friends. Two of them responded by joining the call. Besides the host, we were the only three people present.
Only thirty minutes had been allotted for the conversation, which did not leave enough time for a thoughtful exchange of perspectives, careful inquiry, or the development of a meaningful action plan.
What unfolded during and following the call included assumptions about what others knew, what they valued, what actions they were taking, and whether they truly supported sovereignty. Conclusions were also formed about what I and the other participants believed and intended without first giving us a meaningful opportunity to share our perspectives.
I found myself wanting to clarify what had occurred and defend the integrity of my intentions.
Yet if life is a mirror, the invitation cannot end with correcting the outer account.
If an encounter can move my heart, disturb my inner coherence, or pull upon the threads of my integrity, then I must gently ask:
Is my heart truly as light as a feather?
Am I fully present, or am I reacting through an experience recorded in the past?
Am I witnessing clearly, or am I emotionally charging the very pattern I wish to transform?
Am I still perceiving something outside myself that must be fixed before I can experience peace?
Am I living by the words I share with others?
Am I still harbouring resentment, rejection, abandonment, shame, guilt, blame, grief, defensiveness, or a need to be validated?
What I know with absolute certainty is that these discordant energy signatures are not conducive to a heart that is light as a feather. Nor do they reflect the full embodiment of sovereignty.
When my unique energy signature remains bound to a past event, whether the experience involved me alone or included others, that event may continue signalling a reaction through my autonomic nervous system.
The event may have ended in the outer world, yet the emotional meaning assigned to it can remain active within my body. A word, expression, circumstance, or interaction in the present may then awaken the old pattern, and I may find myself responding through the identity and emotional frequency associated with what happened in the past.
Sovereignty, for me, includes becoming conscious of these inner responses so they no longer direct my present experience without my awareness. It means reclaiming the energy held within the event, releasing the identity and story attached to it, and restoring my thoughts, emotions, body, and nervous system to coherence with the intelligence of the heart.
This does not mean denying what happened, excusing harmful behaviour, or abandoning healthy boundaries. It means refusing to remain energetically bound to an experience that has already passed.
I can honour what the experience revealed.
I can retain the wisdom.
I can release the emotional charge.
I can allow my authentic Self to determine how I respond now.
These questions are not expressions of self condemnation. They are invitations into greater truth, freedom, coherence, and self awareness.
The Lens Through Which We See
When people encounter the same information, they do not necessarily perceive it in the same way. Each of us interprets what we see through our present identity, assumptions, experiences, emotional impressions, beliefs, and level of self awareness.
This is why I believe we must be cautious about making assumptions or presumptions regarding what another person knows, what they are doing, what they value, or why they have responded differently than we expected.
Beginning a gathering with the premise that those who have not responded are uninformed, frightened, inactive, cowardly, or unwilling to exercise sovereignty is unlikely to create the conditions required for meaningful dialogue or a practical resolution.
People cannot be invited into genuine collaboration while their motives, awareness, courage, and character have already been decided for them.
A lack of visible engagement with one person’s page does not establish that others are doing nothing. They may already be researching, advocating, creating, organizing, serving, healing, preparing, or gathering people within their own communities.
When we call people to gather and take action, I believe we have a responsibility to create an environment where questions are welcomed, perspectives can be expressed safely, and trust can be established.
No one should feel required to defend their integrity because conclusions were formed about them before they were given an opportunity to speak.
Information, Knowledge, and Inquiry
Information is not automatically knowledge.
Information becomes meaningful when it is examined through discernment, placed within context, tested where possible, integrated through experience, and translated into responsible action.
Before bringing people together for a Zoom conversation, it may be useful to send a short questionnaire asking:
What concerns are you presently aware of?
What information or evidence have you reviewed?
What actions are you already taking?
What outcome would you like the gathering to accomplish?
What practical contribution are you willing and able to make?
What does sovereignty mean to you?
What would respectful collaboration look like?
Questions such as these allow the facilitator to discover where people actually are rather than assuming everyone is beginning from the same place.
They also honour the truth that awakening unfolds through the identity each person is presently occupying and through what they know themselves to be.
A Lifetime of Self Inquiry
Our experiences of life shape the reality we perceive and influence the meaning and purpose we assign to our existence.
Because each of us has travelled through a different combination of experiences, questions, revelations, and inner awakenings, I see no valid reason to dismiss or discredit another person’s perspective before taking the time to hear how they arrived there.
I have been engaged in self reflection for as long as I can remember because I genuinely wanted to comprehend what life was all about.
As a young girl, I remember looking around me and wondering:
“What is this all about?”
Later, the question became:
“What is God?”
These seemingly simple inquiries helped shape the experiences that followed. In turn, those experiences gave me greater insight into the human design, our relationship with creation, and the creative process through which our inner world becomes reflected through our lives.
Since the life review I experienced on November 3, 2000, I have been writing and documenting my experiences, epiphanies, realizations, and insights.
This is one of the primary reasons I created FreedomDove.net. It became a space where I could preserve what had been revealed to me, continue exploring the deeper questions of existence, and share what I was learning with others who might find value in it.
What Sovereignty Means to Me
For me, sovereignty is not demonstrated by demanding agreement, assigning motives, speaking over others, or deciding who is worthy of belonging.
Sovereignty begins with responsibility for my own thoughts, words, emotional energy, choices, assumptions, and actions.
It includes the ability to listen without surrendering my inner knowing.
It includes the ability to ask questions without being accused of avoiding truth.
It includes the ability to disagree without condemning another.
It includes the ability to establish a boundary without closing my heart.
It includes the willingness to examine my own lens before declaring what another person thinks, feels, intends, values, or knows.
To be sovereign has been part of my life’s work for many years. Much of what I have researched, experienced, written, and shared explores self identity, conscious creation, spiritual law, legal and personal sovereignty, subconscious repatterning, heart coherence, and the restoration of our authentic Self.
Becoming the Neutral Witness
Another image shared during a dialogue with a friend distinguishes beautifully between feeding a negative pattern, denying what is present, and becoming the neutral witness.
Neutral observation is not passivity.
Discernment is not avoidance.
Heart coherence is not submission.
Seeking to comprehend the human design, creation, and the creative process is not fear.
Asking for evidence and a clearly defined action plan is not fear.
Becoming the neutral witness does not mean denying what occurred. It means seeing clearly without allowing the emotional charge of the experience to continue directing my thoughts, body, words, and creative Life Force.
There is a profound difference between awareness and attachment.
I can acknowledge what happened without carrying it forward.
I can speak truthfully without entering battle.
I can establish a boundary without condemnation.
I can withdraw from an exchange without closing my heart.
I can allow another to hold a different perception without surrendering my own inner knowing.
The deeper invitation is to witness clearly, remove the emotional battery from the pattern, reclaim my energy, and act from the higher Divine template I wish to bring into expression.
Florence Scovel Shinn’s words continue to ring within me:
“So we see man’s work is ever with himself.”
For me, this means my work is ever with myself.
The outer encounter may awaken the pattern, but the work of recognizing, releasing, and transforming what has arisen remains within me. No one outside me can complete that restoration on my behalf.
Neville Goddard also reminded us that everyone is us pushed out.
These teachings continually return me to the same realization: when I wish to transform what is appearing before me, I must become willing to examine the inner film being projected through my identity, assumptions, expectations, emotional memories, and spoken words.
Perhaps the deeper question is not:
“How do I change the reflection?”
Perhaps it is:
“What must become lighter within my own heart so the reflection can change naturally?”
Presence is a gift I give to myself, and it is a gift that keeps on giving. Yet presence requires honesty. It asks me to notice where I am still resisting, defending, grasping, or reacting as though my peace depends upon changing something outside myself.
Life continually calls me back to my own heart.
What assumptions am I making?
What identity am I occupying?
Am I listening to another person, or only listening for confirmation of what I already believe?
Am I creating the conditions for cooperation, or am I recreating the very division I say I wish to resolve?
Am I living by the words I share?
In my estimation, self awareness is one of the keys to self mastery and to actualizing the life I came forth to experience.
Perhaps self mastery is not demonstrated by never experiencing an emotional response. Perhaps it is revealed through how honestly and lovingly I meet the response when it arises.
Can I witness it without feeding it?
Can I listen for the message within it?
Can I reclaim the energy held inside it?
Can I continually return to the intelligence of the heart?
I have baptized this recent experience with success. I release the need to defend, persuade, or be fully seen through another person’s perception. I bless everyone involved and return my attention to what I am being called to create.
Today, I ask myself:
Is my heart as light as a feather?
Wherever the answer reveals something still waiting to be released, I meet it with compassion, awareness, and love.
This is the work before me.
This is how I reclaim my energy.
This is how I continually return to heart coherence.
This is how I embody sovereignty.
This is how I become the reality I wish to see reflected in the world.
The link to the post where the accompanying image was shared will be placed in the comments. A picture can sometimes reveal far more than words alone.
The outer world may reveal the pattern, but the doorway to transformation remains within.

Sophia-Taniah Theonewhoflowswiththeriver This is the meme that first inspired the reflection shared in my post.
Israel El’Shaddai shared it in the Gnosis group on July 25 with the words:
“You can speculate all you want, but at the end of the day…”
The question within the image stayed with me and opened the doorway to a much deeper inquiry:
Is my heart as light as a feather?

Sophia-Taniah Theonewhoflowswiththeriver The Message Behind the Image
During a meaningful dialogue with Misti McLaughlin, she shared this image along with a detailed message exploring the distinction between two very different responses to what is unfolding in our world.
One response is to become so focused upon fear, injustice, control, and unwanted possibilities that our attention and emotional energy continue feeding the very pattern we wish to transform.
The other is to deny or bypass difficult realities through passive expressions of love and light without honestly acknowledging, examining, or addressing what is present.
Misti’s post presents another possibility through the MCEO framework: neutral observation and conscious stewardship of the holographic template.
This means looking directly at what is unfolding with clarity and discernment, without denial, while refusing to supply the distortion with fear, anger, despair, or continual emotional charge. It is described as witnessing without charging, removing the emotional battery from the unwanted pattern, and consciously anchoring a higher Divine template through grounded and intentional action.
Whether or not someone is familiar with the MCEO teachings, I believe the distinction is worthy of deeper reflection:
Can we acknowledge what is present without becoming consumed by it?
Can we remain aware without continually feeding fear?
Can we withdraw our creative Life Force from the unwanted pattern without pretending it does not exist?
Can our actions arise from clarity, sovereignty, heart coherence, and the reality we consciously choose to bring into expression?
I have shared the image and the link to Misti’s complete post in the comments. I invite you to read her full message, as it provides valuable context for the visual and explores the difference between feeding an unwanted reality, bypassing it, and becoming the conscious neutral witness.

Sophia-Taniah Theonewhoflowswiththeriver Another post appeared in my feed carrying a remarkably similar theme. It speaks to a paradigm shift from locating authority, divinity, and creative power entirely outside ourselves toward recognizing the Divine Presence within.
I do not receive this image as a condemnation of every religion or spiritual tradition. Rather, I see it as an invitation to examine where I have placed my authority and whether I am still waiting for something outside me to give me permission, direction, freedom, or identity.
The words that stand out most strongly to me are:
“The only thing standing between you and your divinity is your perception of yourself.”
This returns me once again to self concept. The identity I occupy influences how I interpret my experiences, what I believe is possible, the emotional frequency I carry, and the reality I continue creating from it.
These posts seem to be arriving with a common message: sovereignty begins within. It asks me to know myself, take responsibility for my thoughts, words, assumptions, and actions, and become conscious of the inner pattern I am offering to the world.

Sophia-Taniah Theonewhoflowswiththeriver I received a link from a friend through Facebook Messenger and felt inspired to share it here. The timing felt beautifully synchronistic, and once again, many of the same themes appeared.
The post speaks about releasing identities formed through conditioning, ending the inner struggle between the masculine and feminine aspects of Self, allowing the nervous system, body, and heart to release what they have been carrying, and reclaiming the authority we may have placed outside ourselves.
This has also been reflected in recent Freedom Dove Frequency Sessions, where we invite the feminine and masculine aspects of Self to return to resonance and coherence, allowing their authentic frequencies to arise from the original template.
I receive astrology as one possible lens through which people interpret what they are experiencing, rather than as a fixed prediction that determines what must occur. Yet the questions offered in this post feel deeply relevant:
Where have I been living from conditioning instead of truth?
Where have I been outsourcing my power instead of embodying it?
What part of me has been waiting for permission to emerge?
These questions reflect the heart of what I have been exploring. Self awareness allows us to recognize the identities, emotional impressions, beliefs, and autonomic responses that may still be influencing our present experience. From that awareness, we can release what no longer reflects the life we came forth to experience and restore our authority to the authentic Self.
I was especially drawn to these words:
“Your power was never outside you. This week is about remembering where it truly lives.”
And:
“Who were you before conditioning? Who have you always been underneath the roles?”
The common message appearing through these different posts seems unmistakable: stop fighting yourself, stop outsourcing your power, release what you have been carrying, and walk toward the truth of who you have always been.
I am sharing the original post and accompanying images here for anyone who feels called to read the complete message: https://www.facebook.com/100071252598924/posts/1076931228025287/?rdid=TdlqmU0COHs0ESvb#

Sophia-Taniah Theonewhoflowswiththeriver On further reflection, I came back to this picture and recognized another layer of meaning within it.
This photo appeared in my news feed, and I felt inspired to share it here. Before reading the story accompanying the image, what was your initial impression when you first saw it?
What meaning did your mind immediately assign to what you were seeing?
Did you perceive an attack, entrapment, self defence, misery, self injury, or something else?
What might that first interpretation reveal about the lens through which you were perceiving the image?
I could not verify the story of the snake and the saw as a factual event, and it appears to function more as a modern parable. Yet the message it carries feels deeply connected to the reflection I shared earlier.
It reminded me of another widely circulated story about a man who saw a snake trapped in a fire. When he reached down to rescue it, the snake bit him, causing him to release it back into the flames.
Rather than abandoning the snake or repeatedly exposing his bare hand to another bite, he found a pole and used it to lift the snake safely from the fire. When someone questioned why he continued helping after being bitten, he explained that the snake’s nature did not have to determine his own nature, although he had learned to take appropriate precautions.
I found several versions of this parable, although I could not establish its original author or confirm that it describes an actual event.
The distinction feels important.
Remaining loving does not require repeatedly placing my hand where I know I may be bitten. Compassion does not require abandoning discernment, healthy boundaries, or self respect. I can recognize what occurred, respond wisely, and protect myself without allowing another person’s actions to harden my heart or change the nature of who I know myself to be.
The man did not continue reaching into the flames with his bare hand. He changed his approach.
As I returned to the image of the snake and the saw, however, I recognized another important message. The snake appears to respond to the saw as though it were an attacker. Yet every attempt to bite, fight, and constrict it only deepens its own injury.
Perhaps this image is reminding me to continually return to self awareness before interpreting a situation or taking action.
When I respond from pain, anger, fear, or assumption before clearly discerning what is actually happening, I may unknowingly intensify the very experience I am trying to escape. What feels like self protection in the moment may bind my energy more tightly to the source of my injury.
A conscious pause gives me the opportunity to observe what has been activated within me, evaluate what is actually occurring, and choose an action guided by clarity, discernment, and the intelligence of the heart rather than by an immediate emotional reaction.
In this way, neutral observation does not mean ignoring the saw, denying the bite, or pretending that nothing happened. It means becoming conscious of my response so that I do not continue wrapping myself around the very experience that wounded me. It also allows me to examine the mechanism through which the experience came into being.
I can acknowledge the bite without becoming identified with either the bite or the wound it leaves.
I can recognize the saw without continuing to struggle against it.
I can establish a boundary without condemnation.
I can retain the wisdom without carrying the emotional charge forward.
When an encounter activates resentment, blame, defensiveness, rejection, or the need to retaliate, I am once again invited to look within and ask:
What is my reaction doing to me?
Is it protecting my integrity, or is it binding my energy more tightly to the event?
Does this response truly serve my intention to embody sovereignty?
Am I responding to what is actually occurring, or to the meaning my past experiences have taught me to assign to it?
Can I respond differently without closing my heart?
This returns me to Florence Scovel Shinn’s reminder:
“So we see man’s work is ever with himself.”
It also returns me to the question that inspired my earlier reflection, a question rooted in the ancient Egyptian symbolism of the heart being weighed against the feather of Ma’at:
Is my heart as light as a feather?
I am also coming to recognize that many ideas carried forward from the past are remnants of earlier systems of thought that do not necessarily need to be brought into the present moment. Concepts such as being recorded in the Book of the Dead or the Book of Life may hold symbolic meaning, yet I no longer wish to experience the present as though I am still bound by an old record, identity, judgment, or story.
This moment is the moment of creation.
I can draw upon the knowledge, insights, epiphanies, wisdom, and tools I have gathered throughout my journey without continuing to recreate the limitations through which they were acquired. I can retain the wisdom while releasing the emotional charge, conditioned identity, and assumptions that once held the experience in place.
I am free to write a new chapter, one no longer governed by past presumptions, inherited beliefs, or an outdated concept of who I believed myself to be. The past may have informed me, but it does not have to determine what I create now.
Perhaps this is another expression of sovereignty: becoming conscious of the record I have been carrying, gathering the wisdom held within it, and then choosing what I will bring forward into the present moment.
Perhaps sovereignty is not merely demonstrated by proving that nothing can affect me. Perhaps it is expressed through becoming conscious of what has been activated, pausing before reacting, choosing a wiser response, reclaiming my energy, and refusing to allow an experience outside me to determine the condition of my heart or the inner state motivating me to take action.
After reading the story and reflecting upon its message, did your perception of the image change?
What did your first reaction reveal about the assumptions, emotional impressions, or past experiences you may have brought into the moment?
Perhaps the image is inviting each of us to pause, look again, and make certain that the action we choose does not bind us more tightly to the very thing causing us pain. ![]()
