Jesus, Divine Mind, and the Miracle of Seeing Beyond Appearances
A post landed on my Facebook news feed in the ACIM FAMILY group asking a powerful question:
“How was Jesus able to heal the sick and raise the dead? Your own words please.”
I wrote my own response before reading the comments, and then I went back through the thread. What I found felt worth preserving here because so many of the responses carried beautiful insight, even though each one used slightly different language.
Some spoke of Christ consciousness. Some spoke of faith. Some spoke of the Holy Spirit, perception, Love, Oneness, forgiveness, the power of thought and word, and the ability to see beyond the body and beyond appearances. Others questioned whether the stories were literal, symbolic, historical, or metaphysical. Together, the responses opened a deeper inquiry into healing, Divine Mind, the body, consciousness, and what Jesus may have truly been demonstrating.
My own response came from where I currently sit in my understanding of the creative process, the subconscious and superconscious mind, and the field of Infinite Intelligence moving through all life.
From my current understanding, Jesus was able to heal the sick and raise the dead because he was not operating from the level of consciousness that believed sickness, death, or limitation were ultimate reality.
He spoke from Divine Mind, or Christ consciousness — the field of Infinite Intelligence, creative life-force energy, and perfect design. This is the same intelligence that imprints the tree within the seed and provides the environment for it to fulfill its destiny.
Florence Scovel Shinn wrote in The Game of Life and How to Play It:
“Whatever man feels deeply or images clearly, is impressed upon the subconscious mind, and carried out in minutest detail.”
To me, Jesus understood how to speak to the subconscious and superconscious field with absolute faith. He did not affirm disease as truth. He witnessed the Divine Design beneath the appearance and commanded Life from that level of knowing.
Perhaps healing happened because he saw the person as whole before the outer world reflected anything differently.

After sharing my own reflection, I read through the responses and found many insights that echoed this same deeper knowing in different ways. I am preserving some of them here as a living conversation around healing, perception, faith, and the remembrance of what is real.
Beatriz Merino For me, Jesus was able to heal the sick and raise the dead because he knew something we have forgotten: we are not bodies. He saw the Christ in everyone, untouched by sickness, suffering, or death.
Jesus didn’t believed in sick bodies, he only believed in the perfect child of God. Where we see death, Jesus saw eternal life. He was not fooled by appearances because his mind was completely joined with God’s.
I don’t think Jesus performed miracles to prove he was special. I think he was demonstrating what is possible when a mind is free of fear and remembers its Oneness with God.
The real healing was always in the mind. Sometimes the body reflected that healing, and sometimes it didn’t. But Jesus consistently taught that life is eternal and that nothing real can be threatened.
To me, his message was: “You can learn this too.” Maybe not by trying to raise the dead, but by learning to see beyond appearances, forgive, and remember the truth about ourselves and others.
I think that’s the miracle Jesus is still teaching us today. ![]()

Eric Gariépy He did it, just as I do and as anyone can…
Simply, he entered into communion with the Holy Spirit and joined with the sick person, allowing the Holy Spirit to work.
Not by desiring to see the imperfection or the illness disappear.
That is a judgment, and for the miracle to occur, one must not decide the solution for oneself.
One must simply desire to join and let the Holy Spirit do HIS work.
It is the Holy Spirit who inspires miracles. I am merely the instrument through which the miracle is accomplished.
David Colburn He shined the light of truth into his brothers mind and they did not turn away from it.
Rob Longpré Maybe he saw beyond the body entirely. Where we saw sickness, he saw wholeness. Where we saw death, he saw life.
Corey Arms Effortlessly

Denise Childs By seeing them as perfect, no birth, so no death ![]()
God didn’t create disease, so no need to heal, forgiveness for believing we are separate from Gods love only love is real, everything else is illusion.
Alec Martin What he can do, I can too. Just do it
Sally Ann Slight ,,,,by leading them out of their darkness

Barbara Arnello Pure joy and unconditional love
Kim Covert All the I can do, you can do, and more. The power is within each us us
Valorie Summey Denys He knew who he was and had no doubt.
Robert Smith He healed the outcast and dispirited. It had nothing to do with the body.
Lynn Woodland He mastered spiritual law.
Tom Nottorf Healing is of the mind and has nothing to do with the body

There’s no sick people‘out there’
There’s only an illusion of them
Majid Etemad Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering.
Dan Spaeth He had complete conviction in what he could do.
Jeannie Garman I think even in the Bible a lot of these quotes were metaphorical but people, over time, took them literally. Jesus saw the people as healed and by the “willingness” to believe him, their minds were joined, and so this healing thought became theirs, as well. And so they were healed – at least at the level of mind, how they saw themselves. This may or may not have led to a bodily healing, but what is most important is that their mind shifted to believing they were healed and whole.
George B. Thomas He accessed grace.
Patrice Wiegand Snyder He’s the Son of God, He can do anything!
Tena Brass He just “saw ” them , as one with all..in a time when they were invisible to the communities around them. Being “seen” gave them strength and healed their soul..so their illness became meaningless..
Vera Moscardi I believe he had traveled east and learnt Ayurvedic medicine.
I believe the stories of his healings have been embellished, so as to appear impossible for ‘normal’ people to achieve.
Medicine is wonderful – it saves lives. But, it demands an exceptionally high level of sustainable infrastructure to not only maintain, but also make accessible. Thus, it also poses a massive moral obligation to governments – far easier to attribute healing to a miracle. The Christian doctrine has repeatedly, and deliberately, hidden such information – The Dark Ages are a very good example. When a people have autonomy over their health it extends into many other areas of life and society.
Linda Quesnel He could because he knew who he was, and he therefore, Could do it. He was able to exercise his power.
Susan Mary Amos Relieve them from believing they were bodies.
Tara Christmann Pilling The power of thought and word.
Jon Pratt Singularly held Truth abolishes illusion (sickness). Jesus didn’t do anything other than “bring illusion to the Truth.” No resistance, no conflict. He did not, probably could not, endorse sickness by the need to heal, he knew “You need no healing to be healed.”
He knew this universally as all that he perceived. We, too, are encouraged to have this world/universe view —- “You can give up the god of sickness for your brothers; in fact, you would have to do so if you give him up for yourself. 5 For if you see the god of sickness anywhere, you have accepted him. 6 And if you accept him you will bow down and worship him, because he was made as God’s replacement. 7 He is the belief that you can choose which god is real. 8 Although it is clear this has nothing to do with reality, it is equally clear that it has everything to do with reality as you perceive it.”
Sally Ann Slight ….He knew the Way…..

Chad Steele Because ignorance loves magic and miracles. The greatest deception is the one you tell yourself. Doubt more. Ask more questions.
Kathy Scaman All healing is in the mind. We are not bodies we are eternal spirit. Use the body for holy purpose then it is holy
Nina Marithea hes just born that way
Frederick Burke Healing the sick is a matter of developing your love. Jesus recommended service as the best method of accomplishing this. Feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, loving your neighbor. The difficult part of this (which is also where Mother Teresa came up short) is that “Good works alone are not enough.” Jesus was referring to taking action from love instead of duty, obligation, looking good or anything else. How did Jesus raise the dead? Well I’m going to go out on a limb and suggest that actual raising from the dead without a defibrillator is not possible. However, if someone was comatose and someone whose word was powerful told them to wake up, they would. Your words become powerful the same way you learn to heal.
Sue Emmel Faith
Bodhi Ross Campbell He activated their inner healer by first seeing them as Children of God and seeing them as whole the way they were created. Then he helped them further by asking them if they had faith. It is the faith within that does the healing. And he loved them.
Robert Robinson Jesus never healed anyone, all healing came from the healed individuals own faith. We heal ourselves. We may be able to help another understand that they can heal, but it is up to them.
Ved Bell Perhaps it’s just a good story.. There is no actual proof or evidence of his miracles. There are other spiritual leaders that have the same story, with no actual observers or written coverage of any event. Paul didn’t begin his writing until 40 years after the event and the bible was not assembled completely for almost 400 years after the biblical writings.. leaving some books out of the completed bible.. Don’t you THINK there would be other written evidence of Noah living in a whale for 3 days, or an actual writing or witness to the crucifixion?. I am not an atheist, I do believe in some of the motIvational stories.. But there is such diverse stories between the Old Testament and the New Testament.. And did Jesus also go to the other trillions of galaxies to save their souls?.
For historical continuity, refer to the actual timeline of the writings;
New Testament CompilationEmperor Constantine the Great (304–337 CE): While Constantine did not choose the books of the Bible, in 331 CE he famously commissioned church scholar Eusebius to produce fifty high-quality, single-volume Bibles for the churches in Constantinople, standardizing the collection of early Christian texts.Pope Damasus I (366–384 CE):
The definitive compilation of the Christian Bible was largely established during the reign of Pope Damasus I. He authorized the Council of Rome in 382 CE, which produced the first officially recognized 73-book list of the biblical canon, later affirmed by the Councils of Hippo
and Carthage.
EnglishTranslation King James I (1566–1625 CE): If you are thinking of the famous English compilation, it was authorized by King James I of England. In 1604, he commissioned 47 scholars to create a new English translation, resulting in the publication of the King James Version in 1611.
I do not deny the messages of the New Testament, which differs significantly from the Old Testament; A vengeful god that demands obedience or eternity in a burning Hell for not being compliant, or a loving god that brings salvation?.
Some people in 2026, believe the earth is flat because that’s what someone told them.. But if they were to FACT CHECK that information they would discover hat they were mistaken.
As I stated at the beginning, I am not an atheist and I do believe in the basic message of the New Testament; Loving your neighbors, Peace, Empathy for the poor. But with so many writers and so many stories left out of todays Bible, I have questions about its authenticity as the TRUE WORDS OF GOD, and those who profess to preach or teach it. Far to many pedofiles in religion, and politics .
Shirley Benson He looked beyond their ego mind and saw their sinlessness/light.
Paul West Well, for a start, the power of God has to be involved, and a whole lotta love and not fear.
Basically those who believe that only the truth is true and nothing else is true, are fully psychologically sided with God and his laws – under no laws but God’s. This means that you believe only in LIFE, and not death. When you are an expresser of life, you become life-giving, and powerful, and causal. The resurrection for example is the assertion of life which completely has power over death and all sickness and everything. Someone who is very alive, let’s say, expresses from love miraculously, and there is no limit to what they can do. A life-focused person does not become deceived by illusions of sickness, ego, death, temptation, suffering etc, he recognizes them with true perception as false and untrue and unreal, and overlooks them with forgiveness, and just focuses on what is TRUE – that we are all immortal beings who are still perfect and have not really changed. Focusing on that truth of immortality amplifies that in the minds of those who need healing and enlightens their minds and causes them to become more awakened and sane and healed, and in turn that also heals the body.
Basically you gotta side with God and deny the ego and its ideas of death and murder. It has to be all about LIFE LIFE LIFE LIFE LIFE – aligned with eternal life, in which there is no death and no suffering and no sickness. Then when you bring ONLY life, you can’t help but naturally raise the dead.
You just basically resume your proper normal natural function as it is in heaven, which is to simply give what you have received from God – EXTENSION OF LIFE.
“Miracles mean life and God is the giver of life.” “Miracles are a universal blessing form God through me (Christ) to all my brothers.” “
“Miracles make time and tide wait for all men. They can heal the sick and raise the dead because man himself made both death and taxes, and can abolish both.”
